HDR and color
Convert to SDR, or export HDR10 (PQ) or HLG.
Choose the mode in Dynamic range in Export.
Modes
- Convert to SDR: Rec. 709 for every screen. HDR sources are tone mapped with ITU-R BT.2446 instead of being clipped.
- HDR10 (PQ): BT.2020 PQ for streaming, headsets and HDR screens.
- HLG: BT.2020 HLG, the broadcast HDR that SDR screens also show acceptably.
Mixing SDR and HDR clips
In an HDR export, SDR clips are placed at 203 nits, the reference white of ITU-R BT.2408, so they keep their brightness next to HDR clips.
Codecs for HDR
HDR needs HEVC 10-bit, MV-HEVC 3D 10-bit or a ProRes codec. ProRes 4444 and 4444 XQ write 12-bit HDR with transparency.
HDR export is not available for sources decoded through FFmpeg (for example VP9, AV1, MKV, WebM, MPEG-TS and MXF) or when a watermark is required. Preview always shows SDR.
